Thanks for visiting Wisdom for the Wealthy. My name is Don Roork. I’ve been married to my lovely wife Pam for 42 years, and we have three grown children and eight grandchildren. I am a Certified Financial Planner™, Certified Kingdom Advisor™ and an ACBC Certified Biblical Counselor. I help Christians understand how they can live transformed lives as they shift their life focus from an overemphasis on the constant pursuit of money to a Return on Life (ROL) focus that can build treasure in heaven for eternity.
I’m writing this blog because it is my goal to equip you with timeless biblical passages on how you can better deal with the inevitable challenges and uncertainties in your life. Many of us struggle with one or more of “The Big Four” areas in our lives:
- Our Marriage (or some relationship)
- Our Health
- Our Children
- Our Finances
For 40 years, I’ve been helping individuals to deal with number four above, “Finances.” My focus has been helping clients with the external challenges of the financial markets and economic and political uncertainty, developing financial plans for their future, and choosing the appropriate products and services.
But in my own life, I’ve had to learn how to deal (I’m still learning) with the internal and philosophical challenges of being tempted to succumb to the world’s value system in the pursuit of money versus pleasing God and serving man. I’ve had to learn how to be content (Philippians 4:11-13).
This blog is the fulfillment of my passion to help people like you beyond solely the offering of financial products and services. As an ACBC Certified Biblical Counselor, I’m passionate about helping you live a transformed life, and this begins with a Gospel-centered, biblical approach to living. I began this blog as a way of sharing biblical passages I’ve learned about how to deal with the internal challenges that I’ve faced. This blog is not about financial products and services. More importantly, I’ve set out to share biblical passages that are designed to help you gain peace and contentment in a world that can be filled with turmoil and dis-ease.
I’m amazed how our culture views work. Like the rich fool in scripture (Luke 12:13-21), our culture encourages us to work and work and work so that we can rest. By the way, I’m not against “retirement” as our culture encourages. But I think we should retire “to something” and not “from something.”
I want to share advice and ideas that get to the heart of how you can deal with and view your money, and examine how a change, or even subtle adjustments, in your heart can have incredibly positive effects on how you view and use your money.
My wife Pam and I have three grown children and we are blessed with eight grandchildren. We attend CALVARY Church in Maumee, Ohio, where I serve on the finance committee and just completed my second on the Deacon Board. Both Pam and I enjoy teaching classes on topics including “Freedom from Fear,” “Freedom from Addiction,” “Freedom in Christ,” “Classic Christianity,” “INSIDE OUT Life Transformation,” “The Financial Hope Workshop,” and “Put Emotions in their Proper Place.” We gain great fulfillment in helping others find hope when times are tough through biblical counseling.
I’ve worked as a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and President of AssetDynamics Wealth Management for 37 years. My team and I serve individuals in over 35 states (as of 5/9/19) with a variety of products, services, and practical advice. I’m also a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA®), and the current branch director for the Toledo, Ohio branch of Kingdom Advisors, a faith-based nationwide nonprofit organization helping financial advisors offer a simple, step by step process to engage clients with biblical principles. Three times over the past 35 years I was the President of the local Toledo, Ohio area Financial Planning Association., a nationwide organization. You can also find my profile at Investopedia.
I’ve been quoted in national publications such as CNBC, U.S. News and World Report, Forbes and the local Toledo Blade, and have had many opportunities to share financial market and financial planning views on local television, having appeared on local WTVG 13’s “Ask the Expert” and “Action News at Five” noon newscast. I enjoyed a three-year stint as host of a weekly program called “Financial Forum” airing on a local cable channel here in Toledo – though my wife tells me she doesn’t think anyone was watching. She’s normally right. 🙂
